Here we have a 5" gauge LNER Thompson L1 tank. Essentially a brand new model, only steamed on a handful of test occasions by ourselves when it initially came to us as a brand new unsteamed model around 7 years ago. We commissioned it, painted and lined it and it has been on display at the previous owners home ever since.
The quality of model engineering is first rate, the machining work being particularly neat, which was why we felt it worthy of a decent paint job. Fitted with an injector as well as a twin ram axle pump and footplate mounted bypass valve. Lubrication is mechanical and beautifully packaged in the scale lubricator on the running boards. The loco comes as you'd expect with a fresh 4 year hydraulic test as well as a fresh annual steam test so that we are sure all is well and ready to run.
This is a little clip of the model on it's first steaming to find out exactly what needed sorting out back then to complete the build and commissioning. Ignore the fact that the engine is wearing it's original and horrendous lining tape, which has now all gone, and indeed the body went fully back to bare metal for a full re-spray.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
